AUTLA needs your input

Dear members,

Earlier this year, via Facebook, we asked members to consider taking on a role with the committee. This year has been an active one and has seen us release a series of exclusive video interviews with international ukulele experts and provide information tables at both Blue Mountains and Melbourne Festivals.

To date, few offers or even inquiries have been made. The committee had also made detailed plans to run a PD session for teachers in Brisbane and a further one for teachers and community group leaders in Newcastle on Friday. The Brisbane event unfortunately had to be postponed due to a venue issue entirely beyond our control, and we have now sadly made the decision to shelve the Newcastle event as the FB poll suggested that very few people were available to attend and we only received ONE expression of interest from potential presenters via the website.

As previously indicated, after the initial 3 years of establishing our credentials, the founding officers have decided that is time to allow others to continue with the running of the Association following the AGM in October, which will take place around  the Newkulele Festival Newcastle, most likely on October 19th.  A formal notice of the AGM will follow.

All roles will be declared vacant at the AGM, and your organisation will require nominations for President, Vice President, Secretary, Public officer (which has to come from NSW given that is where the Association is registered) and Treasurer.

The current officers will be more than happy to work with a new committee in the handover stage and beyond but need to stand down in order to allow new ideas to flourish.

Therefore, we once again encourage ALL members to consider getting involved and to contact us, either via email or the Facebook group regarding the commitment required (which is small).

Please be advised that unless there are nominations at the AGM the organisation will either have to lie dormant or alternatively a Special Resolution to wind it up, in accordance with the Constitution, could be tabled.

The aims of AUTLA are here https://autla.org.au/#why-do-we-exist: if you can help continue to further them please sing out!

Yours
Cathy Welsford
President
